JOB DESCRIPTION – MEDICAL RECEPTIONIST 

Location: The Clinic @ 78
Reports to: Practice Operations Manager
Working hours: 18–24 hours/week, with flexibility for holidays and extra hours as needed

THE ROLE

As the first point of contact, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring every patient and visitor receives a warm, professional welcome. You’ll manage appointments, handle enquiries, maintain a tidy and inviting reception area, and support the smooth day-to-day running of The Clinic @ 78.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greet and assist patients, customers and visitors in a friendly and professional manner
  • Manage enquiries and book appointments by phone, email or in person
  • Support new patient registrations and update patient records accurately
  • Take payments, issue receipts, and explain charges where applicable
  • Maintain a clean and welcoming front-of-house environment
  • Serve refreshments and, when required, act as a chaperone
  • Open and close the clinic following agreed protocols
  • Provide general administrative support as needed

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Excellent communication skills – written, spoken, and on the phone
  • Strong IT skills and confidence using Microsoft Office and email
  • Friendly, patient-focused approach and strong customer service skills
  • Organised, reliable and able to multitask under pressure
  • Team player with the ability to also work independently

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience in a healthcare or front-desk environment
  • Familiarity with patient booking or registration systems
  • Previous involvement in stock checks, audits, or clinical admin

Qualifications

  • 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above (including English and Maths) – Required
  • A-Levels or equivalent – Preferred

Additional Requirements

  • Availability to work flexible hours, including holidays and extra hours when needed
