What is a private GP?
A private GP (General Practitioner) offers all the services you need from your regular GP but has more time to give. A private GP provides diagnostic services and treatment for various illnesses and conditions.
Private GPs can also refer you to specialists to continue the investigation into your symptoms. At The Clinic @ 78, we can refer to our in-house specialists.
Our experts have a range of expertise in:
- Aesthetics
- Cardiology
- Dermatology
- Gastroenterology
- General Surgery
- Private Geriatrics
- Musculoskeletal Services (MSK)
- Ophthalmology
- Rheumatology
- Urology
- Gynaecology
- Women’s Health and Pregnancy
- Lifestyle & Preventative Medicine
Visit each of these pages to learn more about our specialist services. Keep reading to learn more about visiting a private GP.
Why visit a private GP?
You would visit a private GP for the same reasons you would visit an NHS GP:
- Presenting with new symptoms or concerns
- Receiving a vaccination, screening or a health check
- To follow up on the management of a pre-existing condition
A benefit of seeing a private GP in Dorset is shorter waiting times with a faster diagnosis. They can often offer more efficient and higher-quality services as well.
If you have a pressing concern, but cannot arrange an appointment with your regular NHS GP, you can book an appointment with one of our private GPs in Dorset.
Private GP appointments
At The Clinic @ 78, we offer appointments all day, from early morning to evening. We also offer same-day appointments for your convenience. We are open Monday to Saturday, 8 am to 8 pm on weekdays, and 8 am to 4 pm on Saturdays.
Choose to access our private GP consultations as a one-off service or regularly, as it suits you. Our appointments can be 20 to 40 minutes long. We offer you more time than NHS GPs to discuss your concerns, examine you and make an appropriate management plan with us.
Our highly experienced private GPs provide all the medical care you would expect with the added reassurance that your appointment will be convenient, flexible and focused on you.
We welcome patients of all ages, and you don’t need to register with us or live locally to book a consultation with our private GPs.
Your appointment
We will order any necessary tests to determine the cause of your symptoms and recommend treatment options. We’ll also ask about any relevant medical and family history. We can communicate your results via SMS as soon as we have reviewed them, and we will refer you to one of our specialists for further testing or treatment if needed.
To prepare for your appointment, bring in a list of any medications you are taking and any allergies you have. Ensure you know the chronology of your symptoms and previous investigations.
Please also bring any paperwork from outpatient appointments or test results that you have regarding the problem you are consulting about, as we don’t have access to your NHS records.
